One 60-day voyage circling the Land Down Under is being halted in the wake of the tragic passing of an elderly woman who was abandoned by the ship on a remote coastal location.

Suzanne Rees had been walking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the vessel, but broke off from the group for a pause. The liner left without her and came back several hours later after the ship staff became aware the lady was unaccounted for.

A major rescue mission located her remains the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the incident, alongside law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator announced that passengers and personnel on the vessel were told that the continuation of the journey had been terminated due to the "sad loss and previous engine troubles".

Via official communication, he added that guests would be given a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the individuals via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also published an revised announcement, and said they had "provided a notice to the Captain" prohibiting any additional guests from getting on the ship.

The official said that they would visit the liner in Cairns upon its return.

The ship first departed Cairns on October 24th, and was merely two days into the journey at the moment of the senior passenger's demise. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the journey.
