Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important political figure stated the incident made him without words and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in 2020.
